The final race of the Rallycross Finnish Championship series was held in Joensuu, and after a colorful series of events, Viljami Saarinen finished second in the standings for the Crosskart 85cc class.

10-year-old Viljami Saarinen, who lives in Orivesi, achieved two victories and one second place in the preliminary rounds of the competition. With them, the starting position for the final start became the third spot in the front row

Saarinen, who represents PR-Racing, was aware that a fifth place in the final race would be enough for a bronze medal.

– After a good start, I ended up on the outside line in the first corner. The racing line got a bit wide as I was careful not to have any collisions,” recounted Viljami, who was driving in fourth place at the beginning of the race.

Saarinen went for an extra lap on the third round, after which he collided with a competitor. For a moment, the racing car rose onto two wheels, but the driver managed the situation.

– In the previous race, a similar situation ended in a somersault, but this time there was luck on the way. The impact broke the rear rim and the tire started to deflate. Fortunately, I managed to keep the fourth place until the finish, Viljami said.

The fourth place in the competition was enough to elevate Viljam’s ranking from third to second, and the young man will be awarded the junior national championship silver medal at the end of the season.

Another competitor from PR-Racing, Sofia Nummela from Kangasala, finished seventh in the final race.

8-year-old Sofia placed an impressive sixth in the national championship points among a total of 20 young driver prospects.
